A note from our producer
Stella is the second of our MICRO-nuance productions. Over the years, subtlenuance has had the privilege of presenting our work in some of Sydney’s most iconic venues: The Old Fitz, Ensemble, KXT, New Theatre, Old 505, and Flight Path.
But now we’re trying something different (or perhaps, we’re going back to our roots.)
MICRO-nuance is pop-up theatre: theatre in non-traditional spaces, without the “bells and whistles”. We hope with MICRO-nuance to present beautiful pieces in unexpected places at affordable prices.
Having launched the project, we were thrilled to be approached by KXT on Broadway with the suggestion that our first two MICRO-nuance productions might find a home in the KXT Vault.
In accepting such a generous invitation we not only launch MICRO-nuance, but also serve as a pilot for the much anticipated KXT Underground program.
We’ve been introducing MICRO-nuance as
small pieces, small places, small prices,
BIG LAUGHS, BIG IDEAS, BIG HEART.
We hope you enjoy this offering. Thanks so much for coming along!
Daniela Giorgi
A note from the writer/director
Firstly if you’re reading this, you’ve probably seen our play. Thanks so much for coming!
Stella is a piece of fiction; it’s neither my story nor Cara’s. It’s the story of a fictional actor, but I’d hope it’s read as only an actor’s story. The moral journey of our unnamed protagonist is one we all have to make, and have to make repeatedly.
To serve the purpose of this play, I’ve leant heavily into the idea the KXT Vault is not a “real” theatre. It is, of course, as “real” as any place in which people come together to try to make sense of Life. We’re very grateful to have been able to share our attempt here. And we look forward to seeing in future the magic other companies conjure in a space that is a very welcome addition to the Sydney theatre scene.
